Ashley trained as a chartered accountant in the London office of PricewaterhouseCoopers, eventually becoming a senior manager specializing in mergers and acquisitions. He entered the hotel industry in 1994 with Queens Moat Houses plc, where he became Group Finance Director and Deputy Chief Executive. Before joining Realstar in 2005, he was Chief Operating Officer of LK Bennett, a U.K.-based fashion retailer.

Ashley is responsible for finance at Realstar Hotels UK, including co-ordination of financial reporting for 51 companies, treasury management and tax, as well as managing all financial aspects of the InterContinental Hotels Group relationship.
